Undergraduate Research Seminar

In seminar discussion classes semester-long students reflect on methodological issues within their discipline, and integrate material covered in tutorials and  lectures. It is a time to learn from one another as well as from your seminar leader.

Develop your research skills

Preparing your research paper is an opportunity to hone the new writing skills that you have developed over the semester. You will need to formulate a hypothesis or question, plan your research paying particular attention to questions of sources, method, and approach, and write a paper in an appropriate academic voice. The process offers training in preparation for the rigorous research and writing required of a graduate student, and along the way you are supported with individual consultations with a specialist adviser.

Our aim is to help you develop the skill in posing purposeful academic questions that you can answer imaginatively as an academic. We want you to be able to write persuasively and engagingly, so that you can present material at a higher standard than ever before.

What areas can I research in?

Undergraduate Research Seminars are offered in eight disciplines.

  • classics
  • English language and literature (for English and modern language students)
  • history (for history and musicology students)
  • history of art
  • philosophy
  • psychology
  • science and religion
  • theology
