Professor Paul Ewart

Professor Ewart was born in Northern Ireland, and graduated in physics from Queen’s University Belfast. After holding a research post in Imperial College, London he became Lecturer at the University of Oxford physics department, later serving as Head of the Department of Atomic and Laser Physics. He was also Fellow of Worcester College. He has been visiting professor at the Joint Institute for Laboratory Astrophysics, Boulder, USA, the École Normale Supérieure, Paris, and the University of Otago, New Zealand. His research has included fundamental physics of quantum and non-linear optics, lasers, and combustion science with applications in engineering of more efficient engines to reduce climate changing effects and in gas sensing for environmental monitoring. He is convener of the Oxford Forum for Science and Religion, and Chairman of Christians in Science.
