Following her undergraduate degree in biblical studies, Kirsten read for a master’s in ancient history, with a thesis on Irenaeus. Her studies have focused on the interaction between religion and politics in the ancient world, and the context and content of early Christianity. Kirsten has completed a DPhil in patristics in Oxford’s Faculty of Theology and Religion, where she explored how the church father Lactantius uses Roman ethical ideas to argue against the persecution of Christians.
